The Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI earned a reputation for heavy armament and versatility during the Second World War. Accepted into service from September 1940, its armament layout featured four 20mm cannon in the nose plus six 7.7mm machine guns.
Responding to changing threats, the aircraft was adapted for night fighting with Airborne Interception radar on early Mk.1F examples. The Mk.VI benefited from 1,670hp Hercules VI engines, the addition of a rear-facing 7.7mm defensive gun and a modified tailplane to enhance stability. Production exceeded 5,900 aircraft and the Beaufighter saw service from Europe to the Pacific theatre.
The Tamiya 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI kit captures cockpit and weapons details that modelmakers expect at this scale. The parts fit well but require patience with small components and paintwork to achieve an authentic museum-style finish.
