The Douglas A-1 Skyraider stands out as a versatile attack aircraft from the mid 20th century. Designed to meet naval strike requirements, it combined heavy lift capacity with endurance. Tamiya's 1/48 scale kit aims to reproduce that character in plastic, offering a precise building project for collectors and experienced modellers.
Development began in July 1944 and the prototype test flight took place in March 1945. A production allocation of 598 aircraft was set by May 1945. The Skyraider was fitted with the Wright R3350 radial engine, delivering around 2,800 horsepower, and the airframe included three prominent dive brakes mounted on the fuselage.
Tamiya has modelled the Skyraider's robust airframe and its capacity for varied external stores. The kit's part fidelity and surface detail make it suitable for those who enjoy adding ordnance, rigging and realistic paintwork to convey operational service life.
