The De Havilland Mosquito is frequently ranked with the Spitfire and Lancaster as one of the most important British aircraft of World War II, praised for its speed and adaptability. Designed by De Havilland in 1939 as a high speed unarmed bomber, it drew on wooden construction methods developed on the Comet racer. Except for its engines and landing gear, most of the airframe was wood, a choice that brought performance benefits despite initial scepticism from the Air Ministry.
During trials in November 1940 the Mosquito reached 630 km/h, which encouraged production. The PR Mk.I reconnaissance variant started operations in July 1941, with the combat B Mk.IV arriving in early 1942. The aircraft carried out notable sorties including a daylight raid on Caim and the bombing of the Gestapo headquarters in Oslo, demonstrating its ability to deliver precise strikes while carrying substantial loads.
This Tamiya 1/48 plastic kit reproduces the Mosquito B Mk.IV/PR Mk.IV with fine surface detail and accurate decals. The kit provides a satisfying challenge for those who want a faithful static replica of this notable wartime design.
