The Mitsubishi A6M3/3a Zero earned a prominent reputation in early Pacific engagements. Released as the Model 32 in summer 1942 to address high altitude performance, it gained speed but also weight and reduced fuel capacity, limiting range. The later Model 22 in 1943 introduced a longer wingspan and improved fuel economy to recover its operational reach.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit faithfully recreates the Mitsubishi A6M3/3a with newly tooled main wings and options to assemble the A6M3 or A6M3a. Included photo etched parts provide realistic wingtip folding detail, and both seated and standing pilot figures are supplied for display variety.
Given the Zero's historical significance, this kit makes a fine showcase model. Three marking options are provided, one of which represents Major Shindo's aircraft, and modellers can upgrade detail with Tamiya's Mitsubishi A6M Zero Fighter Detail Up Parts Set for enhanced accuracy.
