The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an iconic carrier-based fighter developed under the US Navy VFX programme. This twin-engine, supersonic aircraft was central to fleet defence missions and is easily recognised by its variable-geometry wing arrangement. The F-14A served in multiple roles and remains a popular subject for scale modelling.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit renders authentic surface detail and functional elements of the Tomcat. The completed fuselage length is 398mm, while the wing span is shown from 212mm to 408mm to reflect different sweep positions. Movable swing wings are included and can be set between roughly 20 and 75 degrees. The model can be displayed with landing gear down for a static ground presentation.
Alternate parts are supplied to represent various airbag and sealing plate shapes. The clear canopy is modelled to allow an open presentation, and a ladder plus step components can be installed either stowed or extended. Three decal schemes are provided: two for U.S. Navy squadrons and one option for the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force.
