The Tamiya 69928 Centipede Robot is an educational model in transparent orange that illustrates mechanical walking principles. It is aimed at hobbyists and classrooms seeking an easy to follow build that results in visible, rhythmic leg movement.
The completed centipede is approximately 400mm long, 92mm wide and 40mm tall. It features nine pairs of bright orange legs that produce the ripple motion. The kit includes a head unit, multiple body segments, a gearbox and a battery case designed to replicate the coordinated gait.
Expect a pace near one metre per 15 seconds and the ability to navigate around obstacles by changing direction. The underbody is shaped to help the model find alternative routes when it meets barriers, which makes it useful for demonstrations of simple mechanical responses.
The robot runs on a Type 130 motor and shares gear compatibility with Tamiya Mini 4WD parts, so Grade-Up items can be used for performance experiments and parts interchange.
