The Tamiya 70169 Rescue Crawler is a model kit aimed at those learning the basics of robotics and mechanical design. The project-style build provides clear examples of drive systems and part interaction while remaining accessible to model builders.
This rescue-style crawler features three pairs of tracks to improve off-road capability. The front track assemblies articulate from 80 degrees upward to 20 degrees downward, helping the model negotiate uneven surfaces. A controllable rear crane arm allows users to practice simple object handling and rescue scenarios.
Included components such as the twin motor gearbox, the 4-speed crank gearbox and a 3-channel R/C unit explain gear reduction and remote control basics. The universal plate offers scope for mounting experiments or modest custom upgrades during the build.
The kit requires two R20/D/UM1 batteries which are sold separately. Buying batteries separately keeps the initial cost lower and allows selection of preferred battery type.
