The Tamiya 72009 5-Speed Twin Gearbox H.E. is aimed at model makers and educational users who want to explore geartrain behaviour. It features five selectable gear ratios - 6.1:1, 15.6:1, 40.2:1, 103.3:1 and 265.6:1 - letting you assess how changes affect output speed and torque.

Construction notes and protection

The gearbox has separate right and left halves that click together for straightforward assembly. Each side supplies five mounting components each with three fixing holes for flexible attachment. Clutch gears in the 103.3:1 and 265.6:1 ratios provide overload protection to help avoid gear damage.

Use cases and motor fitment

With hex hubs fitted, the unit can take cruciform crank arms and common R/C wheels, making it adaptable for small drive systems. Two Type 260 motors are included and the gearbox is also compatible with Type 130 and Type 140 motors for alternative performance choices.
