Overview of the U.S. Aircraft Carrier Hornet

The U.S. Aircraft Carrier Hornet was the eighth carrier in U.S. Navy service and the third Yorktown-class vessel built within treaty limitations. It featured reinforced anti-torpedo protection but carried a relatively small anti-aircraft outfit of eight single-barrel 5-inch guns. Turbine machinery produced around 120,000 horsepower, allowing maximum speeds near 34 knots.
