XF91 IJN Gray by Tamiya is a water-based acrylic intended for scale modelling and accurate colour reproduction. It lays down smoothly by brush or airbrush and is compatible with styrene, foam, wood and typical model plastics.

Historic Naval Colour Match

The shade is representative of the grey applied to Imperial Japanese Navy ships constructed at the Yokosuka Arsenal, such as the Shinano and Shokaku, making it useful for historically accurate modelling projects.

Application Guidance and Thinners

For spraying, thin XF91 with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner to achieve the desired flow; lacquer thinner reduces drying time and can improve film hardness. For hand painting, Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) will help reduce visible brush marks.

Matte Finish and Cleaning

The paint dries to a flat XF finish in line with other XF series colours and can be washed away with water before curing, so tools are easy to clean after use.
