Professional-Looking Finish for RC Bodies

The Tamiya 86003 PS-3 Light Blue spray paint is created for use on polycarbonate RC car bodies, providing a vibrant finish that stands up to regular use. The 100ml can is a common size for completing one or two body shells depending on coverage technique.

Preparation and Application Advice

Spray from approximately 30cm with overlapping strokes to achieve uniform coverage. Apply paint to the inside of the shell to protect the exterior film and improve durability. Once the first coat has dried fully, apply a follow-up coat to build opacity and evenness. For fine detail work, use Tamiya bottle paints made for polycarbonate to paint trim and small areas by hand.

Fuel and Oil Resistance

The product resists oil and fuel exposure, so it is practical for gas-powered RC vehicles. This resistance helps the paint retain colour and finish during maintenance and use around engines.

Use several light passes rather than a single heavy coat and keep the spray can moving to avoid pooling. Proper drying between coats helps the finish level out for a glossier look.
The paint offers resistance to oils and fuels, making it suitable for models that encounter occasional fuel exposure. For heavy exposure areas, consider additional protective measures or regular inspection.
Plan your colour order from light to dark, use fine-edge masking tape for curves, and ensure each layer is dry before applying the next mask to prevent lifting the previous paint.
Sanding lexan is not generally recommended. Instead, clean the shell thoroughly and use recommended polycarbonate paints and techniques for best adhesion.
Wipe tools with an appropriate solvent or use disposable covers for items near your painting area. Follow safety guidance on the label when handling solvents and residues.
