The Vickers Wellington GR Mk XIV was a frontline anti-submarine aircraft in WWII, pairing ASV Mk III radar with the Leigh Light for nocturnal U-boat detection. To accommodate the radar installation the nose turret was removed on many aircraft, and some crews painted a turret outline to preserve the outward look. The Wellington was driven by a 1,735 hp Hercules engine and operated from bomber Command bases on England's south coast.
Trumpeter's 1:72 scale model represents the Wellington GR Mk XIV for builders focused on authenticity. The kit scales the original 86.2 ft wingspan and 64.6 ft length into a compact model form and comprises 205 plastic parts for a comprehensive build.
This kit presents a moderate modelling challenge with finely detailed assemblies that reward careful preparation and painting. The chin radome for the ASV MK III radar is modelled to reflect the aircraft's maritime role, and the decal choices let you depict either No. 304 Squadron or No. 458 Squadron for a period-correct finish.
