The 122mm howitzer M1938 (M-30) was indeed introduced into the Soviet Army fleetingly before World War II to change the obsolescent World War I models. After war the Ml938 became the standard divisional howitzer from the other Warsaw Pact armies. Additionally wound up available to armies in the remainder internationally.
