The Trumpeter 1/48 TA-3B Skywarrior kit captures the look of a major US Navy bomber from the Cold War period. Its sizeable fuselage and carrier-capable features make it an attractive project for modellers interested in naval aviation history.
Conceived in the late 1940s and first flown in 1952, the Skywarrior remained in production into the early 1960s. The airframe used a semi-monocoque hull, housed J57 turbojets in underwing nacelles, and had a radar-guided tail turret; folding wings helped with carrier carriage.
Trumpeter faithfully scales these aspects, offering an involved build with more than 390 parts and a set of photo-etched details to lift the finer elements of the model.
Clear canopy parts reveal cockpit detail and the kit's crew seats are modelled for realism with photo-etched harnesses included. The choice to show folded wings makes this kit ideal for carrier dioramas, while the extended wing option suits traditional shelf displays.
