The 1K17 Szhatie was conceived to disrupt adversary optical and electro-optical equipment by projecting a concentrated laser beam. Its design incorporated around 30 kg of manufactured rubies, onboard power generation and backup battery support, with movable metal lens covers for protection. A 12.7mm NSV machine gun provided a defensive capability.
