Admiral Hipper ended up being commissioned in April 29th, 1939. She have already been initial of five vessels of the woman program. She participated inside German intrusion of Norway. On April 8th, 1940, she encountered the united kingdom destroyer HMS Glowworm north-west of Trondheim. Seven vessels from 19 had been sunk, however the convoy spread and poor weather aided their escape. In short supply of 203 mm ammo, Admiral Hipper came back to Brest on 14 February 1941.
