The Trumpeter 05742 kit depicts the heavy cruiser USS New Orleans CA-32 at 1:700 scale in her 1942 configuration, supplied with components to build as a waterline display or as a full-hull model. The design emphasises external accuracy for display and diorama work.
As the last group of interwar "Treaty" heavy cruisers, the New Orleans class shared a broadly common silhouette and had wartime displacements near 10,136 tons standard and about 12,436 tons full load after the fitting of additional radar, electronics and anti-aircraft weaponry. These ships were active across the Pacific theatre and participated in many operations, with several still in service after 1942.
The model focuses on visible external detail and presentation flexibility. It features a multipart upper and lower hull with a separate waterline plate to permit either display choice. Masts, superstructure modules and numerous small fittings are supplied on multiple injection-moulded sprues. Decals reproduce the MS21 1942 camouflage pattern and the instructions provide clear guidance for assembly and painting.
Ideal for collectors and model builders seeking a faithful exterior representation and the option to display the ship either afloat or as a complete hull.
