22-Tooth 48 Pitch Pinion - Installation Guide

The Yokomo YOKPG4822 48 pitch 22T pinion is supplied as an aftermarket accessory for electric RC vehicles using 48 pitch gearing. It is used to transfer motor output into the spur and final drive when pitch and tooth count match.

Install this 22-tooth pinion when you need that precise tooth count for gearing goals or to replace a damaged unit. Confirm compatibility with your spur gear and motor shaft before securing the pinion to ensure proper engagement and gear life.

Installation and tuning notes:

  • Check that the pinion seats correctly on the motor shaft and that the set-screw aligns with a secure section of the shaft.
  • Use a thin paper or feeler gauge to set the initial mesh so you avoid excess backlash or binding.
  • After running, inspect the set-screw and re-tighten if necessary, then verify mesh under load conditions.
  • Be aware that changing tooth count affects acceleration and top speed, so plan gearing and maintenance accordingly.
Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
A 22-tooth pinion meshes with 48 pitch spurs when both parts share the same pitch specification. Confirm the spur is 48 pitch and check tooth counts before fitting to ensure proper mesh geometry.
The paper method is commonly used and effective for initial mesh setup; a feeler or dedicated gauge provides more repeatable clearance values if you require precise measurements. Either approach works when checked after the first run.
