Understanding spur gear duties

This Yokomo spur gear is supplied as a 108-tooth, 64 pitch replacement for model drivetrains. It performs as the main large gear in spur and pinion arrangements, setting the final reduction and providing the contact interface with the motor pinion.

Installation notes: fit the spur concentrically to the gearbox output hub or designated spur carrier, align the pinion so that teeth mate evenly, and adjust motor position or spacers until the mesh shows no binding and minimal play. Recheck operation under gentle throttle before securing mounts fully.

Tuning role: choosing a 108T spur changes the overall gear ratio compared to smaller spurs, influencing initial acceleration and potential top speed depending on pinion choice. Use this component to refine gearing for handling, run time, or traction while monitoring bearings and motor loading to prevent undue wear.

Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
Fit the spur and pinion loosely, bring them into contact, then separate slightly until a small, even clearance appears around engaged teeth. Rotate slowly to check for smoothness before tightening the fixing points.
Measure the internal envelope available around the spur location and compare against the 108T diameter; also ensure the pinion can be positioned without contacting the chassis or suspension components.
If changing spur size increases side loads or overall torque, inspect and, if necessary, upgrade bearings to maintain support and reduce the risk of accelerated wear.
